Dealing with Adversity: Like a Hypnotist

Life has a way of throwing us curveballs when we least expect it. One moment, everything feels like it’s running smoothly, and the next, you’re grappling with a sudden, overwhelming change. Whether it’s a career shift, a health scare, or an unexpected move, these moments can feel like walls blocking our path. But what if I told you that these walls aren’t obstacles? They’re opportunities waiting to be reframed.

As a hypnotist, I’ve spent years helping people transform their perspectives. One of the most powerful lessons hypnosis teaches is this: reality isn’t fixed. It’s shaped by how we perceive it. That means when life feels overwhelming, the key isn’t necessarily to change your circumstances—it’s to change the way you look at them.

The Power of Reframing

Reframing is exactly what it sounds like: it’s taking a situation and looking at it through a different lens. Imagine standing in front of a painting you don’t quite understand. Now, imagine stepping to the side or zooming out, and suddenly, the entire image clicks into place. The painting hasn’t changed—your view of it has.

When life throws something unexpected your way, it’s easy to focus on the negatives. You lost your job? That’s terrifying—but it might also be the push you need to pursue the dream you’ve been putting off. Your relationship ended? It’s painful, but maybe it’s clearing space for the kind of connection you’ve been searching for.

Reframing is a skill, and like any skill, it gets easier with practice. What’s amazing is how quickly a single shift in perspective can snowball into action. When you start seeing possibilities instead of problems, you stop standing still. You take steps—sometimes small ones, sometimes bold leaps—and those steps create momentum.

Change Begets Change

The first time I experienced this for myself was when I was forced to leave the “safe” world of a 9-to-5 job to pursue hypnosis full-time. It was terrifying, regardless of how necessary. There have been nights where I stared at the ceiling, wondering what I’m going to do if this doesn’t work out. But every time doubt crept in, I reminded myself to pray about it, and that prayer led to a reframe: What if this wasn’t failure? What if it was freedom? What if every challenge was just proof that I was moving forward?

That shift didn’t just change how I felt—it changed how I acted. Reframing isn’t passive; it’s fuel. Once you start seeing adversity as an opportunity, you begin to notice doors where there used to be walls. You stop waiting for things to change, and you start making change happen.

Deal With Adversity Like a Hypnotist

When life hits you hard, I want you to pause and ask yourself: What else could this mean? Imagine you’re a hypnotist helping someone else navigate the situation. What story would you tell to help them see the opportunity hiding in plain sight? Then, tell that story to yourself.

Reframing doesn’t erase adversity. It doesn’t magically solve all your problems. But it gives you something even more powerful: a sense of control. It reminds you that no matter how unpredictable life feels, you’re still the one steering the ship.
